NVQ

NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification also known as SVQ "Scottish Vocational Qualification" in Scotland. Unlike many qualifications, which require, theory based examinations, NVQ is designed for competence-based, practical assessments and its structure is extremely flexible and can be studied in the workplace, college or as part of an apprenticeship. NVQ levels range from 1 to 5 and are available to adults and young people alike.

NVQ Subject Areas

NVQ qualifications cover many subject areas including, Information Technology, Business, Administration, Marketing, Social care, Catering, Leisure, Construction, Manufacturing and Engineering. NVQ standards are set by the Qualifications and Credit Framework "QCF" and were updated 2010 to meet the needs of the modern workplace.

NVQ Restructure

The restructure of NVQ syllabuses allows more flexible and modules gained can be crossed-referenced with other popular qualifications including ITQ "Information Technology Qualification" and the ECDL "European Computer Driving Licence" portfolio of qualifications.

Training Time Limit

NVQ qualifications have no maximum time limit to complete but on average a learner will take about one year to complete an NVQ at level 1 and 2 and around two years for an NVQ at level 3. Please note that NVQ can be known as VET "Vocational Education and Training" outside the UK.
